Contains moving images of two separate railroad excursions. The first portion is a fan-trip on the Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge, dated February 22, 1952 pulled by Locomotive No. 18. The consist is 3 box cars, combine No. 401, and baggage car No. 22 on the rear. Shots include the passenger station and yard in Owenyo, numerous photo run-bys, and the locomotive taking on water, as well as a “group photo” at the end. The second portion is a fan trip on the Western Pacific, dated October 31, 1953, from Oakland to Colusa, California using one of the Zephyrette Budd RDCs. It includes shots of the Eastbound California Zephyr traveling on 3rd Street in Oakland, the Western Pacific Oakland Depot on 3rd and Washington Streets, the interior of the RDC, and numerous photo run-bys including one by the Meridian Bridge in Sutter County.

Film 1: Fan-Trip on the Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge on February 22, 1952 pulled by Engine No 18. The consist was: 3 box cars, combine No 401, and baggage car No 22 on the rear. Shots include the passenger station and yard in Owenyo, numerous photo run-bys, the locomotive taking on water, as well as a “group photo” at the end.
Film 2: Fan-Trip on the Western Pacific on October 31, 1953, from Oakland to Colusa CA using one of the Zephyrette Budd RDC’s. Film shots include the Eastbound California Zephyr traveling on 3rd Street in Oakland (placing the time at roughly 10:40 am), the WP Oakland Depot on 3rd and Washington Streets, the interior of the RDC, and numerous photo run-bys. One of the run-bys was over the old Meridian Bridge in Sutter County, which was a Pratt through truss bridge over Sacramento River carrying CA Route 20 & Sacramento Northern Railway. There are also shots of the RDC in Colusa.
The Zephyrette was the name of 3-times-weekly train that ran from Oakland to Salt Lake City from 1950 to 1960. The WP bought two RDC’s to operater the train.
The old Meridian Bridge is listed on the "Bridge Hunter" site as bridge bh62720.
